Stacia Reinhardt, Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Art Therapist

I am currently a private practice counselor/art therapist serving clients in Charlottesville, Virginia. I have worked in many settings in my career, including in-home and family-based therapy, psychiatric units in hospitals, residential facilities,  and schools. In these different settings, I learned how much our family situation and history can impact functioning. This led me to focusing on working with trauma, adults processing childhood trauma or difficulties, and children/teens navigating growing up in this world. I enjoy working with clients of all ages from 6 years old and up. I look forward to working with you or your child to addresses challenges and help realize goals. Therapy is a process that can move individuals toward being the healthiest version of themselves and living a desired and valued life.

Treatment Approach

I believe in a humanistic mindset that values the intrinsic strength and determination in everyone as a tool for self healing. My professional interests lean towards working with trauma and families through creative means, and I am trained in Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy (ESFT), Instinctual Trauma Response (ITR) trauma therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, all underpinned by a foundation of art and expressive therapy.  My work focuses on changing and improving relational patterns and understanding one’s inner experiences to foster growth. I work from a client-centered perspective, believe in taking a collaborative approach to helping clients reach their goals, and I use the power of creativity and play in healing attachment and trauma.

I often conceptualize the work of therapy as that of being a gardener. When there is a weed in the garden, we treat the weed that shows, but without treating the roots, the weed will grow back. First, we work to build skills, find solutions, and process day to day struggles to remove those weeds from the garden. Then we look at the roots that may be left, and work to rid the garden of the roots so the garden can flourish.

I am currently a Resident in Counseling and Provisional Art Therapist in Charlottesville and the Fishersville area, also offering sessions via telehealth within the state of Virginia. I have had the privilege of working with individuals of diverse ages and backgrounds throughout my practicums and professional career. A majority of my experience has been with children and adolescents (ages 6–18), but I also greatly enjoy working with adults. I support clients across a wide range of abilities, presenting concerns, and identities, including but not limited to physical disabilities, autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, anxiety, depression, and children and teens navigating the challenges of divorce. I am also committed to affirming and supporting LGBTQ+ clients and creating a space where all identities are welcomed, respected, and valued.

Treatment Approach

I believe a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation of meaningful growth and healing. My collaborative approach is grounded in creating a space where clients feel heard, respected, and safe. I practice from a person-centered perspective and adapt therapeutic modalities to meet each client’s unique needs. I especially enjoy incorporating clients’ personal interests into the artmaking process, using creativity as a way to build connections and explore challenges in a way that feels engaging, supportive, and approachable.
